Key Responsibilities
As a Software Developer at IBM, you will join a team that loves cutting-edge technology & teamwork. Here’s what you’ll do:
- Designing & Developing: Your job will be super important! You’ll help design, build, and keep awesome software running smoothly for products like WatsonX and Cloud Pak for Data/Integration. Your work will help make sure everything is safe, speedy, and ready for anything!
- Testing & Fixing: You’ll make sure our software is top-notch by testing it rigorously & fixing any hiccups along the way. Finding ways to make our software even better will be key.
- Documentation & Mentoring: Keeping clear notes of your work is important! You’ll share what you know with others too. Plus, mentoring newer developers will help everyone grow together.
- Tech Exploration: You’ll check out new technologies that can boost what we offer at IBM. Staying updated on what’s happening in the tech world is crucial so we can shine bright!
Skills Needed
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- Programming Skills: Be good at languages like Java, C, C++, Go, or Scala. These skills are key to making high-quality software.
- Problem-Solving Talent: Great at figuring out problems? Awesome! We need someone who loves analyzing and finding clever solutions.
- Software Best Practices Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with software design & testing best practices including Agile methods and CI/CD.
- Database Experience: Know how to work with SQL databases like Db2 or MySQL? That’s great! Understanding data management is really needed.
- Virtualization Skills: Some know-how of Docker & Kubernetes would be helpful too!
- Cloud Services Familiarity: If you’ve worked with cloud services like IBM Cloud or AWS before, that’s a plus!
- Operating Systems Knowledge: Knowing Linux/UNIX is important for developing and deploying software.
- Scripting (Preferred): It’d also be nice if you know shell scripting languages like Bash or Python. It helps with automating tasks and speeding things up.
